Xlicense is used to license all X-Software products, i.e. to control the legitimate usage of the software.

The right to use the software is attested by a license document and is technically implemented by a license key. One — or for higher availability more — license servers control — allow or deny and log — the usage of the software throughout the local network. The right to use may be bound to an individual computer (node-locked) or to the whole network (floating).

In the most simple case of node-locked licensing, the main program of the licensed product automatically starts a local license server.
