10   X-META-X Option FAILSAFE

10.1 Operation
10.2 Configuration
      10.2.1 Screen

10.1   Operation

The X-META-X proxy with the option FAILSAFE detects the breakdown of an X Window server, disconnects it, and deletes the corresponding screens from the configuration. The X Window clients are not affected.

Of course, the X-META-X proxy is fail-safe only if the xmetax program and consequently the resource manager are executed on a fail-safe computer.

10.2   Configuration

The statement

options [+|-]failsafe

enables or disables the option. However, only options which are covered by the license key (3 Licensing) may be enabled. The default setting - no additional options - corresponds to the X-META-X base product.

10.2.1   Screen

10.2.1.1   Fail-safe timeout

The screen sub-statement

    failsafeTimeout timeout_in_seconds

determines the period of time, within which the X Window server has to honor X11 requests, before it is regarded as broken. The default value is 20 seconds.
