FunctionalityX-CONTROL-X receives all input events from an X Window server, the master, and may send the events to one of several other X Window servers, the slaves. Unless configured otherwise, at any time there is only one mouse pointer visible, the position of which determines the target of the input events. The mouse pointer is warped onto one of the other screens by touching the screen border or by pressing a specified hot key combination or by using the graphical user interface. In addition to remote input X-CONTROL-X allows to simultaneously display multiple telepointers on a remote screen. Master and slaves may be rather different X Window servers (workstations or X terminals), because X-CONTROL-X performs the following translations automatically:
The master as well as the slaves may have up to 256 screens. X-CONTROL-X controls always all screens of the master. Cut&paste data is transferred between all screens. ConfigurationX-CONTROL-X is configured from the command line, by configuration files, or through a graphical user interface.
CompatibilityThe X Window clients including window managers cannot detect any differences to an X Window environment without X-CONTROL-X. X-CONTROL-X supports all X11 protocol extensions. The slaves must support at least one of the protocol extensions DEC-XTRAP (newer implementation), XTEST (version 2.2 or higher) or XTestExtension1 (newer implementation). Improvements and enhancements of version 7.0In addition to transferring input events X-CONTROL-X now provides a telepointer without input. The telepointer is displayed simultaneously to the pointer image of the remote X Window Server. If multiple X-CONTROL-X programs access one server, multiple telepointers may be displayed correspondingly. If configured, a mouse click switches from telepointer to input. Size, colors, and label text of the telepointer can be specified globally or separately for each screen. The configuration options of the controlled slaves and the master were enhanced significantly:
A configuration created using the GUI can now be saved into a file. The X-CONTROL-X program now is able to communicate its internal state to a controlling program. Supported architecturesX-CONTROL-X is available for the following operating systems:
Order InformationThe software can be downloaded from the SMART ALEC DOWNLOAD TRAY server. A license key allows to use the software either on one individual computer (node-locked) or overall in a local network (floating). It unlocks the base functionality and possibly additional options. License keys can be requested by e-mail, fax, or phone. Without a license key the program runs in evaluation mode with full functionality and all options enabled. If the program is started multiple times, it can be used not until an increasing period of time is elapsed. There are two ways for updating to the current version. With the update product you get the license key for the current version once, whereas the maintenance plan entitles you to receive the license key for the then current version during one year.
